PFD Food Services takes possesion of new VIC DC
In October, PFD Food Services took possession of their new flagship chilled distribution centre at their headquarters in Knoxfield, Victoria.
The project features a new 25,500m2 state of the art distribution centre, including a 2,200m2 seafood processing facility, 8,500m2 freezer, 5,500m2 chilled chamber and 3,000m2 of high grade office space to cater for their growing business.
Providing an end-to-end solution TM Insight’s Supply Chain and Project Services teams worked together and delivered not just a new distribution centre but;
• Custom Distribution Centre design to suit PFD’s current and future operations with 27 dedicated loading and unloading docks, three individual offices with modern and functional design to support distribution, administration and seafood production.
• State of the art seafood processing facility meeting the stringent compliance standards of Australia’s largest retailers.
• A new Warehouse Management System from Manhattan for optimising PFD’s warehouse operations.
• Commissioning, transition & risk management for moving PFD into their new home without impact to their customers.
Originally planned for completion mid-November 2017, the facility was handed over on budget and three weeks early in partnership with Vaughan Constructions.
PFD Food Services CEO Kerry Smith said that the TM Insight team had delivered a seamless service across the board and has helped prepare PFD for the next phase of growth in their operations.
PFD’s new warehouse was designed with environmentally sensitive features to reduce its overall impact including 1.5million litres of rain water harvesting supplying the refrigeration system, as well as toilets and irrigation, natural ammonia refrigerant with zero global warming potential and LED lighting throughout. In addition an upgraded roof structure to support solar panels was included.
PFD is Australia’s largest privately-owned food service network and has over 67 distribution centres around located around Australia. With over 2,800 staff they deliver an extensive range of fresh, frozen meat and seafood together with drygoods, paper products and cleaning products to the foodservice Industry.
Our involvement in this project began in June 2016 with Knoxfield being the first of a number of new facilities to be rolled out nationally. We look forward to the next handover at Sydney’s Chullora late next year, followed by other significant locations around Australia to follow shortly thereafter.
